If after eight to nine weeks on the combined Anti-Candida/Anti-Allergy Program and vaccine you feel you’re still not making sufficient progress (assuming you are not stressed and you are sticking to the program) it would pay to talk over with your doctor the possibility of a course of Nizoral. Make sure the doctor does a liver function test before you go on this drug.

Symptoms that get worse on cloudy days usually indicate the blood-borne Candida colonies that Nizoral works so well against. Cloud prevents pollution escaping into the upper atmosphere causing it to concentrate at street level in greater than normal quantities. Chemical sensitivity is a give-away sign of blood-borne Candida.

For an anti-candida or anti-allergy treatment program I recommend six to eight weeks on the Metabolism-Balancing Program first, for the following reasons:

• It removes all nutrient deficiencies. This is especially important for women who’ve had children, miscarriages and/or terminations of pregnancy. Significant mineral loss is incurred by the body during terminations and from the placenta at childbirth. Breastfeeding further drains the body of minerals. Many women who had mild allergies prior to miscarriage, termination or childbirth find they have full-blown allergies afterwards—this is due to mineral loss. Most of these women experience a significant reduction in allergy symptoms as the Metabolism-Balancing Program builds up their mineral and energy levels.

• It raises physical and mental energy, thus buoying the spirits and significantly alleviating depression. This enables one to cope with stress more effectively.

• It raises the resistance to allergies and Candida yeast infections by boosting the vitality of the white blood cells, that is, the immune system. When immunity is up, sensitivities are down.

• It reduces the time it takes to overcome allergies and contain yeast infections by balancing the metabolism and boosting immunity as much as is possible while allergies and yeast infections exist.

• It improves the chances of total desensitisation to allergic foods after ninety clays’ avoidance of them.

• It significantly reduces the intensity of the withdrawal and yeast kill-off symptoms experienced during the first week on the combined Anti-Candida/Anti-Allergy Program.

• It reduces the number of things you are allergic to before you take the allergy tests. This is important as the less you’re allergic to, the less restrictive and more nutritious and interesting your program will be. This of course makes it easier to stick to.

• In some cases of mild allergy, especially with kids, symptoms disappear completely on the Metabolism-Balancing Program.

• It ensures an adequate supply of nutrients to tissues that have been damaged by allergic inflammation. This enables a more rapid healing of the tissue when the allergens have been removed. Such quick results keep up enthusiasm for the program. Eczema, acne and psoriasis arc examples of damaged skin tissue that, heal quickly if the Metabolism-Balancing Program is first employed. Diverticulitis and Crohn’s disease arc examples of damaged intestinal tissues. Arthritis has damaged joint (issue, asthma has damaged lung and bronchial tissue and fluid retention has damaged the blood capillaries. All of these heal more rapidly if the Metabolism-Balancing Program is first employed. By balancing the metabolism of the body and brain, the program makes it easier to think more positively and to adopt self-enhancing attitudes.

After six to eight weeks on the Metabolism-Balancing Program you can begin the process of gradual withdrawal from cortisone and antihistamines. This is done only with your doctor’s permission. During (his time make sure you stay on Ventolin and any other non-cortisone/non-antihistamine drug your doctor has prescribed for asthma. If you arc taking drug medications for any other condition don’t withdraw them unless your doctor OKs if.

During this time make sure you have a dust mite cover (available from your chemist) on your mattress, doona (comforter) and pillow if you suffer from asthma or any skin complaint, hayfever, sinusitis, stuffy nose, post-nasal drip, glue ear or bloodshot eyes. If it is your children (and not you) who arc suffering from these complaints make sure you have a dust mite cover on your mattress, pillow and doona if they like to get into your bed. If suffering from asthma, colds, ‘flu, sore throat or glandular fever. Remember the deep breathing exercises. They’re part of the Metabolism-Balancing Program and are important for lowering the levels of histamine in the blood, which in turn reduces the intensity of your allergy.

Pace yourself. In fact do less than before. Certainly don’t raise your work, exercise, social or commitment load as you feel your energy levels rise. Many people make this mistake and become tired again. If your energy doesn’t rise your immunity won’t rise, and if your immunity doesn’t rise you won’t get a good result on the Anti-Candida/Anti-Allergy Program. All things being equal your energy levels should be up after six to eight weeks on the Metabolism-Balancing Program. Don’t go onto the Anti-Candida Program until they are. If you’re getting plenty of sleep, not. overdoing it and the doctor has cleared you of viral infection, diabetes, iron deficiency and thyroid/adrenal gland underactivity, and you’re still tired, then allergy is the most likely cause. You can now proceed to step 2. If any of these factors are in evidence they must be corrected before moving on. Worm yourself and the rest of the family during the final week of the Metabolism-Balancing Program (Combantrin—over the counter from the chemist—is a good anti worm medication). This is particularly important for hyperactive, slow learning kids and those suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. If your allergy symptoms are significantly diminishing on the Metabolism-Balancing Diet, stay on it until this improvement has plateaued, even if it requires more than eight, weeks. Chances are you could throw your allergies on this program alone.

Having completed the program you’ll be impressed with your achievements and will experience a significant increase in self-confidence and self-esteem as well as health. Many of those who complete the program go on to tackle and achieve things they previously thought were beyond their ability. I’ve witnessed this in many of my former Candida patients and have no doubt that it can happen for you as well.

If while on the program you experience a waning of your resolve, the most effective way to counter it is to sit yourself clown and give yourself a good talking to. Make sure you pose yourself the following question: ‘Well what’s (he alternative? Feeling as grotty as I did before starling the program?’

There are a number of things you can do to maintain your willpower:

• Get adequate rest. Tired people get depressed easily and lose interest in everything—including themselves and their goals. Tired people can’t be bothered doing the shopping, preparing balanced meals, organising themselves or disciplining themselves. Learn to pace yourself so that you don’t get tired.

• Don’t skip meals, especially the midday meal. Skipping meals causes a drop in blood glucose levels (hypoglycaemia) which in turn causes a rebound craving for something sweet. Hypoglycaemia can also trigger allergies leading you to believe the program has stopped working. This could upset you to the point of giving up the whole thing.

• Don’t smoke marijuana. They don’t call that stuff ‘dope’ for nothing. It makes you dopey, disinterested and undisciplined. It also gives you the ‘munchies’. It’s a guaranteed recipe for breaking a program and failure to achieve any of your goals. Passive dope smoking is just as bad as taking speed, heroin, crack or any other mood-altering, recreational drug. Keep away from those who smoke or take drugs; they’ll undermine everything you are trying to achieve and will drag you down to their own level of low achievement.

• Don’t skip your vitamins, minerals and other supplements; you will get tired if you do.

• Don’t cut yourself off from the mainstream of life by staying at home for the duration of the program—keep socialising. We humans are tribal creatures. We need the emotional nourishment provided by close and regular communication with friends, kin and acquaintances. Without it we become tired and depressed and try to compensate by binge eating, drinking alcohol or taking drugs.

• Don’t shun restaurants. Go to fish restaurants and steak houses while on the program, saving the other restaurants for when you are well. There will never be a menu that fits your program perfectly so order what you can from the menu and explain to the waiter/waitress that you are not to have sauces or gravies because you are on a strict program. You’ll be amazed how many waiters are familiar with anti-candida programs. Don’t be fazed when your meal comes with everything on it that you requested not be included. People are fallible, especially when they’re rushed. Just push the forbidden foods to the side of your plate, it’s an excellent opportunity to exercise your willpower.

More importantly, it can both mimic all the symptoms of allergy as well as cause allergic reactions. Because of this, the containment of a Candida yeast infection is the secret to the successful containment and ultimately the cure of most allergies. The discovery of this allergy-candida connection offers new hope to those many disillusioned allergy sufferers who’ve tried every available treatment regimen and still have their allergies. Containment of a Candida infection has its greatest effect on reducing allergic reactions to the chemicals in our food, air and water.

Candida albicans yeast lives in the intestines of at least 90-98 per cent of human beings (not normally in over-growth proportions though). In women it migrates from the large intestine to the vagina through the practice of wiping the bottom in a forward motion towards the vagina and through the wearing of tight jeans and nylon underwear.

Yeasts, like their cousins the moulds and fungi, are small plants that prefer to live in a warm, dark and moist environment. The crevices in the mucous membranes that line the walls of the vagina and intestines provide an excellent habitat for yeast of the Candida family. Like all plants, yeasts have a root system, a stem and foliage on top. The Candida albicans yeast sinks its roots into the mucous membranes of the body, which to it are fertile.

Most plants use their roots to draw nutrients from the soil they live in. These nutrients travel up the stem of the plant and into the branches, leaves and flowers where they contribute to the normal metabolism of the cells. The waste products of this metabolism are then released into the atmosphere. Fortunately for us, the major waste product released from plants is oxygen.

With Candida albicans the reverse process takes place. Nutrients are taken in through the foliage on top and the waste products are released out through the bottom. Candida albicans feeds on sugar and white flour. When either of these food types make contact with the yeast, the enzymes in the foliage of Candida albicans quickly convert them to the chemicals it needs to sustain life. The waste product of this enzyme conversion process is a toxic chemical called acetaldehyde, which is a general narcotic of the alcohol family of chemicals (also known as acetic aldehyde ethanol). Acetaldehyde travels down the stem and into the roots from which it is liberated into the mucous membranes.

Because the mucous membranes are so richly supplied with blood vessels it doesn’t take long for the acetaldehyde to find its way into the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream it acts as a typical allergen and is capable of creating typical allergic reactions. People who are not responding to treatment for their allergies, despite sticking faithfully to their Anti-Allergy Program, getting adequate rest and religiously taking their anti-allergy vaccine and vitamin/mineral supplements, usually have a Candida yeast infection.

Because acetaldehyde is at the narcotic end of the alcohol spectrum, special symptoms set its action apart. These symptoms help us to recognise whether the problem is simple allergy or allergy plus Candida overgrowth. The narcotic effect of acetaldehyde is recognised as a typical narcosis. A fuzzy, foggy, spaced-out. off-the-planet feeling in the head, where the head sometimes feels out of kilter with the body, is the give-away sign. The flow-on from this ‘unreal’ feeling in the head is periodic loss of memory, concentration and an inability to clearly articulate one’s thoughts and feelings. This inability tends to manifest as emotional volatility with overt crankiness and irritability in women. In men, it tends to manifest as a sullen, silent moodiness accompanied by introversion and withdrawal.

Losing the drift of what is being said halfway through a sentence, whether we’re speaking or listening, forgetting what we read at the top of the page when we’re only halfway down it, or walking into a room and forgetting why we are there, are all symptoms of the narcotic effect of acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde causes allergic reactions in the tissues it affects as well as a separate narcotic reaction in the cells of those tissues.

Although the mental symptoms just described can be caused by stress, they are recognised as Candida symptoms if they go hand-in-glove with consumption of sugar, white flour and alcohol. Feeling spaced-out, faint, or drunk on only one or two glasses of alcohol invariably confirms a Candida problem as these one or two glasses top up already high levels of alcohol (acetaldehyde) in the blood.

Sudden bloating or distension of the abdomen or sudden onset of allergic reactions (for example, arthritis, acne, headaches, fluid retention or psoriasis) when only small amounts of sweets or alcohol are consumed usually indicates Candida. The sugar in sweets and alcohol feeds the Candida plants so effectively that there is a sudden spurt of metabolic activity in the existing plants and growth in newly forming plants. This means the sudden dumping of more acetaldehyde in the blood with a consequent exacerbation of any existing allergic reactions.

It has been observed that the female sex hormone progesterone promotes the growth of Candida albicans. Small colonies of the plant can rapidly grow to large colonies when the levels of progesterone in the blood are high. Although the mechanism is not clearly understood, it is believed that progesterone changes the chemistry of the mucous membranes making them exceptionally fertile to the growth of Candida.

As pregnancy is sustained by high levels of progesterone for nine months it is not surprising that existing colonies of Candida in the vagina should increase in size. This is particularly so for women who have been on the contraceptive pill (high in progesterone) for extended periods of time and have lived on a diet high in white flour and sugar. (The pill prevents conception by chemically simulating pregnancy.)

At birth, as the baby’s head passes through the vagina, the pressure of the vaginal walls against its face causes it to scoop up a mouthful of Candida plants with its bottom lip. The Candida in the baby’s mouth is pushed down to the intestine with its first few mouthfuls of milk. If large quantities of Candida are ingested at birth the baby contracts oral thrush. If smaller quantities are ingested oral thrush won’t show, though the baby will usually be colicky and discontented. If it is one of those babies who look unhappy and seems to spend its first twelve months crying and screaming for no diagnosable reason, and if it develops a rash around its anus soon after birth, it is bound to have a Candida infection.

The degree of discomfort a baby (and adult) experiences from Candida infection is determined by the size of the colony in the intestines. Although the colony may be small at birth it will grow as time goes by if the diet is too high in sugar and white flour. The formulas that many babies are put on in lieu of mother’s milk are high in sugar content and are major culprits in instigating the growth from a small Candida colony into a troublesome large colony.

A huge Candida colony can grow on the walls of the digestive tract all the way from the rectum to the mouth. It can be recognised in the mouth as a white coating on the tongue, and in the back of and on the walls of the mouth. Under high magnification this white coating can be seen to be made up of lots of little mushroom-like plants. Huge Candida colonies not only mean large quantities of acetaldehyde in the blood, they can also mean a bad breath problem that no mouth wash can cure.

If you have multiple sensitivity – are allergic or sensitive to many other things – sometimes the overall load seems to affect your system. Your tolerance drops unexpectedly and you start reacting to many things at once. High pollen season or high mould season often seems to bring on food sensitivity in people who are fine at other times of the year. Exposure to places with high levels of chemical fumes can bring on food reactions, often temporarily. Eating too much of foods to which you react, but which you tolerate normally at low levels of consumption, can tip you over into reacting more often. Watch out for triggers of this kind. Test foods again when your system is less under stress.

The process of exclusion dieting sometimes brings on temporary intolerances as well, which disappear once a permanent diet is established. Some people seem to go into a downward spiral, starting to react to many things which normally they tolerate. If you react to a lot of things suddenly on an exclusion diet, it does not mean the situation is permanent – it is sometimes just the body’s response to the process of testing. Test foods less often and less intensively – spread out testing to wider intervals if you can possibly do so, to give your system a rest.

Women are prone to react more to foods at times when their hormones are fluctuating – at ovulation in mid-cycle, or at pre-menstrual times. See if your food reactions correspond to your menstrual cycle. If your cycle is erratic, look back at when reactions occurred and see if there is any pattern. Hormonal surges at the menopause, or during and after pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, can bring on temporary food sensitivity.

Emotional or mental stress can also play a part in setting things off. Overwork, anxiety, bereavement, money worries, depression – all of these can trigger reactions.

The use of certain drugs can also cause onset of allergic disease and sensitivity for the first time. Some people can link the beginning of their problems to a course of antibiotics or, in some women, to use of the contraceptive Pill. An accident or injury may also bring on allergy and sensitivities. In some people, chemical sensitivity follows an episode of overexposure to chemicals – such as accidental contamination, occupational exposure, or exposure to building, DIY or gardening chemicals. Sunlight can trigger symptoms in certain individuals, while others with allergies may also be sensitive to electrical fields or to the lack of sunlight in winter. People with multiple allergies are often also sensitive to the level of ‘overall load’ on their systems. They may have few problems most of the time, but will start to react to things they normally tolerate when they come into contact with other allergens or substances to which they are sensitive. Thus some people find they only suffer from food sensitivity in the summer, when they are reacting to pollens, or in the autumn when the concentration of mould spores is high. Other people discover that they only react to chemicals if they eat a food to which they are sensitive, or if they get a viral infection.

If you are allergic to cotton, but have to wear it because of multiple allergies, there are certain types of cotton clothes which produce much less flock and particles, and can be better tolerated by people allergic to cotton. Some people allergic to cotton can tolerate it in a polycotton blend. This may be worth trying. If you cannot wear wool and synthetics, and wear mainly cotton, it can be very difficult to keep warm. Silk is often a good choice. It can be invaluable for lightweight warmth, and chemically sensitive people tolerate it well because no resins are used on it. Silk jersey underwear and T-shirts are available now at relatively affordable prices. They can be very useful to protect sensitive skin against irritation from other fibres and as nightwear.

For waterproof nappy protection, plastic nappy pants give off fumes at first, but do not do so once washed a couple of times. Wash and air before use. Tie-on plastic pants, sold by Boots the Chemist, give off less fumes than pull-on pants.

Other options, especially if you are sensitive to plastic pants, are reusable one-piece nappies which can be disinfected with Borax as above and washed. These have a 100 per cent cotton lining and some form of waterproof layer or cover – usually a synthetic fabric or fibre, but kept away from baby’s skin. Boots the Chemist sell one brand called Bumkins.

If you have to avoid all types of plastic or synthetic fibre, The Green Catalogue sell Dappers which are very thick 100 per cent cotton nappies which have no waterproofing layers – damp but pure! If you or your baby are allergic to cotton, they also sell 100 per cent wool reusable nappies.

If you or your baby are sensitive to sterilising agents or laundry agents, do not use laundered nappy services, or else take care. Check what agents your local nappy hire service uses on their nappies.

Do not use baby “wipes on baby’s bottom. Use damp cloths at home, or take a damp cloth or natural sponge with you in a toilet bag as part of the change-kit.

For nappy rash, the best treatment is to leave a naked bottom out in the air, and to change nappies very frequently. Nappy rash often clears spontaneously if food or chemical sensitivity is sorted out. If you really need a soothing cream on chapped, sore parts, Calendula homeopathic cream works well: use sparingly and infrequently as it is alcohol-based. Do not use it on broken skin or eczema.

Nappy change mats are usually made of plastic-covered synthetic foam. Avoid using these if you can, as they can give off strong fumes, especially when new. If you do use one, wash it well before use and auto remove fumes. See below for advice on using second-hand equipment. As an alternative to change mats, use a towel on a waterproof floor or surface. You could also use a towel over a waterproof plastic cot sheet, which gives off less fumes and is less troublesome than a change mat. Wash these a few times and air before using. These are useful to carry with you for changes outside the home.

Antibiotics are produced from sources other than moulds, however; bacteria and other micro-organisms can be used to produce them. Tetracycline and Streptomycin, for instance, are not mould-based antibiotics. Mould allergy does not therefore mean that you are allergic to all antibiotics. If antibiotics are prescribed for you, and you are concerned, ask your doctor.

Athlete’s Foot is caused by a fungal infection. Some of the sym-toms can be excacerbated if you are allergic to moulds and react to the fungus itself.
